Scope of the Conference
-
Since the invention of Gröbner bases by Buchberger in 1965, this new
method in polynomial ideal theory and algebraic elimination theory has
become one of the standard methods in computer algebra. There exists by
now a considerable amount of theoretical work on Gröbner bases, every
major computer algebra system has an implementation of Gröbner bases,
and the field of applications ranges from algebraic geometry and computer
aided geometric design to chemical structure analysis. The aim of the conference
is to assess the state of the art in the theory and practice of Gröbner
bases.

-
The first day of the conference, Feb. 2, is devoted to tutorials on various
connections and applications of Gröbner bases to other mathematical
fields. Papers on new research in Gröbner bases theory will be presented
on the second and third days of the conference, Feb. 3-4. Additional activities
such as minisymposia, software demonstrations, poster sessions, etc. are
planned.

The international conference "33 Years of Gröbner Bases" is organized
by the Institute for Symbolic Computation (RISC-Linz)
of the Johannes Kepler University Linz. The conference will be held in
Schloss Hagenberg, the home of RISC-Linz. Hagenberg is located about 25km
North-East from Linz, Austria.
